Default Refurbishing a Pool - advice please

We have just have a quote to refurbish our pool

Size approximately 10 by 5 metres if not a little bigger, spa on the side. Concrete currently painted white with some blue tiling round the rim. It is 20 years old with crap sort of old stone round the edge. It is very marked and needs stripping back and the crumbly bits done.

We have had a quote of approx $8K to scrape back and reline with epoxy then painted white - this does not include changing the stone round the top.

We have been advised against getting the sparkling spray stuff as told it would not last very long and isn't great.

Can anyone let me know their thoughts on this. We have been here four years and plan to stay in the house for another four at least and feel we would like the pool to at least be nice for this period of time.

Thank you fo any replies

Cheers Sandra

St Ives, isn't it?

Doesn't appear to be an extravagent quote, but I would get at least one more to be sure. The big question is how long the repairs would last: things have improved a lot over the last ten years and it would be a pity if $8k was spent and you had to have a new pool anyway in 3 or 4 years.

Thanks Wol

St Ives it is, I agree I need another one quote at least but it has taken six/seven weeks to get this one - no ones seems interested in coming round. We don't think it sounds bad but as you say how long is it all going to last the guarantee is only for one year!

We could also consider using it as is for the next four years then filling it in as the kids will be older and spend the money on a Brightling watch for hubby! Not that I am seriously considering that option.

Cheers

Can't help you personally as you're on the wrong side of Australia, but for a concrete pool reno here's what you should be getting from the company for your money.

Clean out pool.
Remove all old paint with high pressure jet blaster.
Any cracked, crumbling or 'drummy' render should be knocked out and re-rendered.
Entire pool acid washed, (then neutralised).
Epoxy based sealer coat applied, followed by 2 coats of epoxy based paint.
Ask them if they are using Luxa-Pool paint. It's not cheap but it's the best.
We use it on all our new pools and reno's.
No more than 24 hours should pass between application of each coat of paint. This is very important!
Allow at least week for the paint to harden before filling your pool.

Hope this has helped....
