Reflexology
 

Hi

I am currently at college studying to become a qualified Reflexologist. Is reflexology/holistic therapy something that is popular in Oz and if so what would be the average price charged for a reflexology session please? :)

Hi I am a qualified holistic therapist including reflexology, when I lived in SA there was`nt any particular vacancies in that field, as a lot of it is not covered by medicare so ppl have to pay out of their own pocket for it, if you get your qualifications recognised to OZ standards & are registered, you can then allow clients to claim from any private medical insurance for their treatment or even part of their treatment, I didnt bother went into completely diff type of work!

Yes there is a greater demand for alternative therapies here than in the UK in my opinion. Reflexology is not normally covered by private medical insurance or treated as a major therapy type though by, for example, the Australian Natural Therapists Association.

As to charges if you think about dollar per minute for natural therapies in general you wouldn't go far wrong.

Spot on. I pay $60 for 1 hour reflexology.

Hi,

I currently live in South Australia & qualified as a reflexologist in the UK. I am also a nurse which is my main job but hoping to start up my own holistic therapies business.
Holistic / alternative therapies are more popular here in aus. However, I am unable to join an association of massage therapists here as my UK qualifications don't meet australian standard. Which means that any clients I have with private health insurance won't be able to 'claim back' for their treatment through their insurance. No big deal - I can still practice as it is an unregulated industry & can still obtain liability insurance as I have my certificates of qualification.
Make sure you bring all your records of assessments etc with you & if possible get your college to give you a transcript of the course ie/ hours of theory & practice, years trained, subjects covered etc in case you decide to get your qualifications assessed here in aus.
