:rolleyes:has anyone ever heard of a reefer container, i think this is the correcr spelling
please advice

It's a container that is about 750cubic feet rather than the 1050 that a full size 20ft container is.

I might not have the sizes totally spot on.

are these good or bad????:confused:

As far as I understand they are insulated containers and are normally used for transporting foods and stuff like that.

We were offered one when we did our shipping because we didn't have a enough to fill a full size container. Having a reefer would have worked out cheaper and meant that we could get our stuff quicker than having to go groupage.

In the end we had some extra stuff so went for a full size 20ft container.

Probably best to speak to your shipping people and ask them what's best for you.

HI d/b REEFERS OR CHILLER boxes are containers which are used to import chilled or frozen goods into the UK. They are smaller than dry good containers, the reason these are offered to companys , at very cheap rates is , so the can be relocated back to countrys who export frozen products. If your goods are placed in these containers, MAKE SURE, the floors are lined with ply board. as they have slat floors. Also that they have been cleaned properly, you don,t want your couch smelling of BEEF..........:D :beer: MM

Hi; we used a reefer container recently on advice from our shippers. Had the assessor round, looked how much we had and gave us our options. Decision came down entirely to how much we had to ship really, why pay to transfer fresh air. Worked out perfectly and saved us some money. Basically, it's a smaller container than the 20footers and we were really surprised how much the packers could get in.
Suggest you just get 1 or 2 shippers round and see what advice each gives.

hi mr mover,

After lots of quotes and recommendations we have finally picked crown. We hae been told we could use a reefer, just after some advice. Are reefers really that bad? We dont want a ''beef'' sofa!! Have been told by crown they fumigate and clean them well after each use, is this true as you're the man in the know. Would you use a reefer or shared groupage, we are undecided, so any help would be great.

reefers or chiller box,s are ok
if has been cleaned, you will soon know,like you will know if it has,nt :rolleyes: just make sure before they load ,that they line the aluminimum slat floor with ply or card board, to stop chaffing and fridge or wash[mach legs getting tangled up in slats. goodluck :beer: mm

We used one on the way here and it was fine, didn't smell or anything!

They are cheaper and apparently because they are used to store frozen food they usually need them back quicker so you tend you get your stuff quicker or at least on time. Saying that, ours still to 10 weeks :mad:

A reefer is just a bit smaller than a 20f container.

Hi all,my wife works for a import/export company and they stopped using reefer containers for shipping household items years ago,as they found that customers household goods were damp after loading into huge swiktched off fridges (reefer containers) by the way the company ,herbert watson quoted us £2295 for a 20footer container from manchester to perth all dock fees included <[email protected]>

In all due respect, i think your wife is thinking of the old type of reefer, which had a permantly fitted chiller/ fridge unit, yes these did leak water and get damp. The new containers have the ,chiller /frdge unit removed for the return, so you still have a dry box, providing it has been given time to dry..... :beer: mm

thanks was worried about using one but as long as i get to check it is clean, and has ply down , guess it will be ok.
