Redlands area...any advice?
Hi,
We're a family of 4 (G= 5yrs, B= 2yrs) and have just been granted our PR visa.
Done loads of searching on the net for areas to settle in and like the look of the Redlands area in Brisbane. As we've not even been there just wondered if any of you kind folks could give us info on the area, things to do with young kids, schools, places to meet people and anything else you think we might need to know. All negative and positive comments appreciated.
Thank you
Jamie and Jo

Re: Redlands area...any advice?
Redland shire is just outside Brisbane and comprises of the waterside suburbs of Thornside, Birkdale, Wellington Point, Ormiston, Cleveland, Victoris Point and Redland Bay. Slightly inland are Alexandra hills, Capalaba and 'down south' in the sticks is Mount Cotton. Personally i wouldn't want to live in Alex Hills or Capalaba, although houses are alot cheaper. House prices in general are quite high ue to the closeness of the bay especially if you compare to say Northside Brisbane (Albany creek, eaton hills, Ferny grove etc). I have work colleagues who all live over there and comparing prices hurts. But thats the price you have to pay if you want to live near water.
Shopping centres are Victoria point, cleveland, large stores at Capalaba and also just in Brisbane city at Carindale or Garden City at Mount Gravatt.
Best to contact Mrs dagboy or ABCDiamond as they are both a wealth of information on this area.

Re: Redlands area...any advice?
Thank you for link, very useful site.
Can't wait to get over there and settle down. At the mo life just seems in limbo.
What's job prospects like for hubby? He's an engineer. Presently he's a project manager/PLC programmer for a systems automation company ( if that means anything to anyone! we've been married for 7yrs and I still don't understand) but initially qualified as an electrician. Any advice?
Thanks
Jo

Hubby tried seek.com but will pass on the other address. Hopefully he should have some success.Do you know if many people are lucky enough to get a job prior to arriving in the country through these sort of sites?
Thanks again
Jo
