Redcliffe VS Caloundra

We've been in Redcliffe for 6 months & although we like the general area & I love my job,we find the local school isn't that great....really bad behaviour in class & use of language which is inappropriate for their age...I'm NOT a snob but my 9 yr old has been asked "does she lickadickaday" by another girl in her class WTF :curse: & the area does have a high "hillbilly" element...
We often visit Caloundra & wonder if I've made a big mistake settling here & if we should buy in Caloundra rather than Redcliffe in a few months....it's gorgeous up there but don't want to uproot the kids to find that it's the same there......any info on local schools in the area ?????
thanks jacq:wub:

I think that I met you in Redcliffe just after you had moved there. Are you a nurse working at Chermside?

I have only ever visited redcliffe and live in Bli Bli on the sunshine coast - but have to say the coast beats Redcliffe hands down for me, there is so much more to do and its such a beautiful place.

I also work with children up here and find them to be much younger than I did in the uk (they are children for much longer which is a great thing).

Admittedly, I may be ever so slightly biased but I totally agree. You can't beat The Sunshine Coast.

Have you spoken to the class teacher? You would have expected that sort of behaviour back in Uk but things are usually different out here. Children are 'children' here and retain their innocence far longer than in UK although children worldwide repeat inappropriate things that they have heard and usually they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Even when they talk about going out with other people it's usually all talk and highly unlikely they actually do anything about it. It's just an attempt to feel popular and to appear grown up in front of their friends. Give the school a chance and express your concerns but if they won't listen and take active steps to correct the behaviour then maybe you should reconsider your choice of school.

If you don't need the city for work, and can aford to work and afford housing at the sunny coast area then it wins hands down.

Housing on the SC is a lot more expensive, we had waterfront at woody point for one third of what it would have cost in same postition at Caloundra or alexandra heads etc.

You have better access to jobs in brisbane from the Redcliffe area.

Kids swear everywhere, SC included, they get it from other kids and most of all the parents, and do aussies swear much?, so of course there are foul mouthed bratties in any part of australia too.

Stuff to do, both areas have plenty of stuff, Sc beaches are much prettier, can have more dangerous surf/rips.

SC is much prettier, RC is closer to Brisbane.

Shops, RC your 20 mins from qlds biggest shopping centre, SC has the rather useless ( will they every extend it ? ) plaza complex, and caloundra is a collection of $2 stores and OP shops, and 3 supermarkets.

If the general aussie yob child bothers you, the privates do a fab line in snobbery:eek: but IME better discipline, but they certainly dont eliminate all bullying, swearing etc, you just get yobs with money:lol: instead.

If you looking for value for money in housing watch the RC/Woody PT area etc, there is a massive bridge/links to brisbane going in, going to totally open the area up.

Were back on SC, lived in Woody Point too, moved between both for work.

Re: Redcliffe VS Caloundra

HI, i live in Caloundra and it's lovely living here. The beaches are really nice and the there is some affordable housing in Currimundi and Caloundra West although i think it is a bit more expensive than Redcliffe.
Would you stay in your job? Some commute from here, Redcliffe isn't too far. But if you need to get into Brisbane it can be a bit far.
I don't know about schools as i am researching them now ready for my son next Jan but i have spoken to my son's lovely nursery teachers an they have said that all the primaries are nice here. I am going to have a look at Talara in Currimundi and Caloundra Christian. Perhaps a trip up here to take a look around the schools yourselves would help.
Good luck, if you need any local info let me know x
