Default Red Centre

1300 kms of driving and 6 hours of flying later I'm back. The red centre of Australia is an amazing place full of unique geography, flora and fauna.

Uluru itself tingles the spine when you look at it. It is immense but there is something else about the place. I am not a spiritual type of person but you can see why the Aborigines see it as a sacred place.

Anyhow here are a few photos and I'll add some more later.

This is Mount Connor

Something worth researching before walking the base is the Aborigine stories about the the animals they believe created the place.

Your pics reminded me of my trip to Uluru - the red stone against the blue sky - awesome.

And I know what you mean about the tingle.

Did you climb it or do the right thing by the Aborigines?

At night down to about 5-7 C and up to 28C in the day. Very dry (my lips nearly fell apart despite constant application of factor 30 lip balm) but perfect for walking around. Skies were pretty much cloudless.

We went on the base walk with a ranger who talked us through the stories - well worth it as it really opens up a whole new viewpoint on the place.

Katja Tjuta is another sacred Aboriginal site and an incredible place to explore and walk around. The valley of the winds walk is awe inspiring and worth doing if you are reasonably fit and healthy.
