Like the one who recently told me I needed to contact Centrelink and obtain a jobseekers ID before she could put me forward for the job. I tried to explain that as I was CURRENTLY employed this would be impossible - she insisted I still needed the jobseekers ID...WTF???? I gave up in the end and told em to shove it mighty deep!

No, they're all crap and staffed by incompetent fools!! (IMHO)

I didn't realise this when I first came here, and it's only since working with organisations that this "perception" has come to light. Companies prefer candidates recruited from private recruitment companies as they think they are getting a "better" class of candidate The other thing is, often Sarino Russo jobs pay less than those recruited by private recruitment agencies so to get more money, you might be better off finding a job through private Recruiters than the recruitment agencies connected to the dole office / Centrelink such as Sarina Russo.
I also agree with Fluffy re Re recruitment agents in general being crap. It is one of the few industries out here that needs absolutly no industry regulation to set up an agency. Can you beleive that a miltil billion dollar industry that is responsible for recruiting the best people in jobs actually is not regulated!:curse:
Strange that the current Priminister's wife became a millionaire through the very same industry
And ...to pick up on Fluffy's comment re Recruitment agents being crap; Recruitment agents often recruit for roles they have never worked in and often know nothing about. Australia complains about lack of skills and the workforce complains bosses are underskilled and yet recruitment firms are put in charge of placing candidates in jobs that often they themselves know nothing about
The really strange thing is that Australian industry relies on recruitment agencies to do all their recruitment. Very few organisations do their own recruitment. Recruitment is a multi billion dollar industry that is not regulated so anyone can set themselves up as a recruitment firm and use anyone as a consultant to recruit staff
It's a major industry out here. Like it or lump it, if you need a job chances are you need to get one through a recruitment agency so you might as well chose the best of a bad bunch. I would recommend if someone wants to use one they should use the internet to research industry specific Recruitment firms when touting their CV's. You should send your CV to as many recruitment firms as poss who specialize in your particular field or line of work. That way you have more of a chance of them finding you work as they will know clients in your specialised field of work.
Another tip; if a Recruitment company asks if you are with any other recruitment firm, tell them no. They need to feel you have chosen them exclusively. If they think you might get a job through another recruitment firm they will not bother "working" your CV as they have to put a lot of work in touting your CV and if you happen to get a job elsewhere, that's their recruitment fee down the drain. So tell them they are "special" and that you have chosen them and that you are not with any other Recruitment firm and they'll work their socks off for you to get themselves a very fat fee

Re: recuritment agencies
I have certainly seen the odd dodgy recruitment agency in Perth. I was waiting for my interview for one and I overheard one of the agents saying 'Oh Ive accepted that lady yesterday, shes a right bogan though'.
Bloody hell, they talk about their clients like that within earshot?
But there are some good agencies out there, the best and most professional by far is Kelly Services - they have a range of sectors with people appropriately trained for each.
There was constant contact, when they got me an interview for a perm. job, they prepared me well, gave me background company info and really went out on a limb for me. Yes there is commission in it for them, but really there is something in it for both of us.
I got the job, and they still keep in touch to see how things are going. It is a mutually beneficial relationship really, but having had experience with lots of shite agencies in my time, Kelly comes out tops.

A little more info would be helpful. What part of Australia do you want to live in? Hobart or Darwin? Maybe Alice Springs? What is your specialty? Different recruitment agencies specialise in different sectors.

Re: recuritment agencies
A few years ago I heard of a guy who came to work here in Oz, the recruitment company he used sponsored him, arranged the visa and then found him work - is that the kind of thing your looking for?
If so sorry to disappoint but this guy was a highly qualified IT consultantworking with a very specific area of investment banking. I have never heard of that service being offered to Finance bods. I'm an accountant.

I am in healthcare and I used GBS. My husband is in engineering and he used Bridge. We have used recruitment consultants for all of our jobs. They have been very helpful. Each time we move I usually call a few companies and get a feel for my consultant. I hate the run around and generally terminate the conversation so, I am not wasting anyones time. I can't help you with a financial recruiter but, do have a lot of experience with them. They generally organize the visa, negotiate the contract and organize the re-location and accommodation allowance. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
