Are Recruitment Consultants needed in AU
One of my friends is looking to see if he has any chance of being able to immigrate to Australia, I have looked on the SOL but can’t find anything that actually says "Recruitment Consultant".
However there I thought he may come under one of the following:
Personnel Consultant 2291-13 VETASSESS 50
or
Personnel Officer 2291-11 VETASSESS 50
He normally does high level IT recruitment with some Construction recruitment currently working for one better agencies in the UK.
If there is any advice you can give me guys that would be great.

Phil
He should look at the descriptions for the 2 jobs that you mention, as a Recruitment Consultant I think that Personnel Consultant would be a better skill fit for him than Personnel Officer. Any reference supplied would need to match against the majority of the tasks below.
2291-13 Personnel Consultant
Interviews applicants to determine their job requirements and suitability for particular jobs, and assists employers to find suitable staff.
Skill Level:
The entry requirement for this occupation is a bachelor degree or higher qualification or at least 5 years relevant experience. In some instances relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification.
Tasks Include:
interviews people seeking work, and records relevant information
arranges interviews for job seekers
receives and records job vacancy information from employers, including details such as duties, wages and conditions of employment
arranges training in job skills
answers inquiries from employers and job seekers, and provides information on current job vacancies
assists with sales and marketing duties to increase the client base, including visiting employers to discuss consultancy services and fees
prepares resumes and correspondence
checks references of applicants
writes and places advertisements for jobs in newspapers

I've seen quite a lot of adverts from Hays for experienced consultants if your friend wanted to go over and work with them, although sounds a bit below him!

Re: Are Recruitment Consultants needed in AU
There is a world of difference between recruitment consultants and personnel consultants.
The former is mainly sales orientated; the latter would have extensive knowledge of relations; development; resourcing; and reward, and then may be either a generalist or specialised. If they are working in the UK more often than not they will be graduate members of the CIPD.
Personnel consultants working for reputable blue chip companies will usually be degree qualified. Recruitment consultants will have a flair for sales and as such academic qualifications are negligible.

I agree that there is a difference in the 2 roles but the ASCO job description as I interpret it relates to recruitment consultants working in a sales environment rather than an in house recruiter or consultant. There is no requirement to be CIPD qual to apply as a Personnel Consultant.

Recruiters are probably one of those most hated professions in Aus, behind Real Estate Agents. If your mate is reputable I am sure he/she will be most welcome as most of them are absolutely awful and completely unprofessional.
Agree with woodcutter in that Personnel Officer is a whole different ball game.
