Recruitment agencies in Sydney

Hello everyone,

I will be in Sydney in April. CAn you recommend me some recruitment agencies which are worth it?

I've got 3 years experience in HR. Do you think it will be easy to get a job?

Cheers

May be you could explain if you want the agencies to find you a job, or if you want to work for the agency...?

My wife had a very mixed experience of the agencies based in Sydney City Centre (CBD). Most of them wanted her to sit quite long skills tests in their offices before they would even interview her. She had a few suggestions of work after that, but nothing that was definite.

Anyway, she did get her job through one of the smaller agencies in the suburbs, but actually the job was advertised in the Sunday papers, the agency were just used to pre-process the candidates, she was not actually registered with them.

I would suggest that trying to send your CV/Resume off before you arrive in Oz is pretty much a waste of time. Some will not reply, others will reply with " When you get to Sydney, come and meet us"

As for recommendations, I have had bad experiences on UK agencies advertising jobs that they simply didn't have just to get people to register and I know that there are all sort sof other underhand tricks go on by SOME (not all) agencies.

So I think, your probably best just Googling for agencies in Sydney both city centre and more local ones in the area that you are thinking of living and having a list prepared and ready to make contact when you get here.

Sorry - I don't know about your field. I've never really been sure what HR people do

I think if you are prepared to put the effort in (phone calls, letters, meetings, e-mails, etc), you will find a job no problem.

I would ditto all of the above. Agencies suck! Pell, do a search on here and you will fall all the usual tales of woe in this regard.

Easy to get a job in HR? Yes, especially if you specialise in learning and development. Very much a growth market over here. There's low unemployment and a skills shortage in Australia, so you should have no problems finding work. It may only be a temp job to begin with, and for less money than you'd have been on in the UK though...

Recommendations? There are loads of recruitment agencies in Sydney - the big international ones and smaller boutique ones. Not many of them are that great but you might get lucky and meet a good consultant who makes a real effort to match you up with a job. Have a look on the job websites, see who's recruiting and go and see them. Much of a muchness really.
