Default recruitment agencies for skilled trades?

Does anyone know or does anyone have any experience of recruitment agencies in brisbane/gold coast areas that specialise in trades? I am a carpet/floor fitter moving over hopefully within the next 18mths and wanted to try and scope out work opportunities before we leave.

Also, for these of you who have trades who went to australia without a job offer first, how did you go about finding work? how long did it take.

Thanks

I was on the DOLE for several years................ wasn't nice.

Don't let me put you off.............. that was years ago during the 'recession we had to have' days; and things have changed a lot for the better since then.

I'm just glad we didn't throw in the towel and return to Lancashire when things didn't quite work out as we planned! Have never looked back, much more opportunity over here than in the UK.

Would think there would be plenty of work for you if you set up on your own, depending on whether you do wooden floors etc, If mainly carpet fitting would be worth getting yellow pages and contacting large carpet retailers and house building companies.

Hubbie is a builder and is always being offered floor tiling work, definitely not enough floor tilers, and wooden floors, decking etc are very popular...people often only have carpet in the bedrooms, and on the stairs here

One local recruitment agency for trades is www.skilled.com.au but I think its often a case of building up contacts and getting self known, get some business cards done and hand them out with your contact details on.

All the best with the move!

Yes Mate,

Recruit right, based in Sydney but they cover every where, i've got her on the case at the moment. 02 6680 4800

Judd farris also, once again, not based on the goldcoast but cover every where. 02 9321 5500
