Is it just me or are the Australian IT agencies far better than their UK counterparts ??? They return calls, they call when they saythey will, they reply to emails promptly and keep you informed at every opportunity.........or have I been lucky so far in the ones I have dealt with ??????

Who are you using ?, when are you going out ? Where are you headed ? ............oh the questions are just never ending !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The main reason for that is the current market has a huge demand for IT professionals.
I applied for 100's of jobs last year when I came, dint get any responses. I applied for 4 jobs this year and got selected for 3.

So how the agencies respond I guess is more to do with DEMAND - SUPPLY.
They treat you like shit when they dont need you, they treat you like a King when they need you..as simple as that.

I am in IT recruitment - and we are not all cast in the same mould!

Yes, there is a big demand at the moment - we are actually seeking guys from the UK in specialist IT areas - ready with visas for some too :D

I had an excellent experience of Brisbane based IT agencies. I finally got a job through Verossity.

However, I also had a bad experience with a British guy who is running his own one-man-band agency here in Brisbane. He took great exception to me accepting my current role and then implied that I had damaged his reputation and my own by not going through with the interviews (at another company) that he had arranged for me without my prior permission or approval.

Apart from that, yes, Brisbane agencies are 110% more professional than their UK counterparts. I think that UK based IT agencies are simply predatory and uncaring in nature.

What I would add is that the IT agencies here in Brisbane seem like an incestuous lot and definitely seem to talk with each other. I was surprised to hear from one agency that they knew that I was going for an interview at my current company, so I have had first hand experience of this. Just make sure that you maintain a good relationship with the agencies that really matter.
