Hi all

We are currently pricing up our move to Oz, as long as our visa is finalised

Most of our furniture was donated or bought second hand, so we dont intend to ship any. We are gonna take a couple of boxes each of personal belonging plus some toys, photos etc, maybe our bikes? Also, hubbie is a carpenter, so needs to ship his tools. Still umming and arrring about the car (Peugeot 307 2003)

Can you recommend a shipping company for smaller shipments?

Also, we are intending on moving around a month or so when we first arrive in possibly caravan sites or a mobile home until we decide where we want to rent, so will have no fixed abode for our goods to be sent to Do the shipping companys have a place we can maybe collect from?

Any help or advice would be appreciated

I have used Anglo Pacific 3 times now, and that includes two cars. They are great to deal with, not the cheapest but they look after everything both in the UK and Australia. They have offices in Manchester , London and Scotland and offer shared container at reasonable prices. Other companies pile on extra costs for customs clearance etc.

Regarding shipping your car, with freight costs and inspection/cleaning/registration fees you are looking at about $AU5000, don't forget the resale value will be less too as it's a UK import. For exotic or Prestige cars ( Porsche, Jaguar, Lotus, Ferrari etc ) it's worth it but for family runabouts, just not worth the hassle.

We did the packing cases thang.. No car tho...

A member of BE who lives in the WA very kindly "lent" me her address so we could ship our stuff and we simply changed the deliver address before it arrived. We incurred no extra charge as distance between the addresses wasn't huge in the end....

I'll never forget her kindness and her support....

Expats tend to help each other like that....

We used Pack n' send when we moved from Oz to Canada, we only shipped boxes and sports stuff. I notice they also have branches in the UK.

They were priced way better than any of the moving companies I contact, so it's probably worth a phone call.
