Being newcomers to this land and its aray of beers, we are in need of help.
Hubby and I have been working our way through the various beers in our local bottle shops and cant find anything that 'hits the spot'. Tooheys New is looking the best of a bad bunch at the moment. Any recommendations?

Tooheys ice is my favourite for beer. If you want wine try www.getwinesdirect.com they do clearskins for about 6.95 when the real price is about 45 dollars a bottle.
A clearskin is the good wine without the label.
Are you coming to our meet ??

I've been doing some research (!) and about the best of a bad bunch is Toohey's Old Black Ale which is fairly tasty. A couple of the James Squire brews (from NSW) are worth trying out but are dear to buy. The Tassie beers made by James Boag seem popular but I can't say they taste much better then anything else I have tried.
SA seems to be devoid of decent beer I'm afraid unless you like freezing cold tasteless lager. Still we seem to have the best red wine in the world so there's one consolation!
I would give anything for a nice pint of Marston's Pedigree right now!

You've picked well. Mr B (an aussie) wouldn't drink anything else than Tooheys New. Well, he would, but only if Tooheys wasn't available. He also likes Tooheys Old and will resort to Coopers or VB when pushed.
I don't drink beer. It's Bundy Rum for me.

The best advice is come home to England
I once found some decent real Ale in Sydney and thought there were a couple of microbreweris in Adelaide
Coopers is not too bad.
Rab
Pedigree is my local pint- Straight from the barrel!- Nectar
My local also sells Bass, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Black Sheep and Old speckled Hen.
Pedigree does me fine though
Don't know how I will cope without it
