I got +110 (and NOT Australian) and interestingly +45 for our move to Singapore (13 years ago) which we currently can't wait to leave. Which meand we should be about 35 years before we get fed up with Oz.

Move to the Gold Coast, been stacks of clouds and cold weather this year. Not what I paid for at all.

I had scored 90 until I got to these two questions:

Do you have close family in the UK that you see more than once a month – subtract 20 points
Will you be leaving any children (eg from a previous marriage) behind in the UK? – subtract 20 points

We do live close to family and we see them about once per month - however, we used to live a long way from them and it was never a problem.

My stepdaughter is 20 and won't be coming with us, however she is training to be a nurse so the option should always be there. She may even come out to Australia and work once qualified.

So, I ended up with 50 but I feel ok about it

I was plus 75 but there was no suitable option in the children section, we don't have any children here or anywhere else. Maybe that is neutral but I also wonder if having children helps people to settle in and thus not having any should be a negative, don't know.

Kids do help you settle in - if you want to settle into a family lifestyle

My brother followed us over here which is wonderful BUT he's mixing with our generation, all old farts with kids!

He's struggling to mix with 20 somethings and do the whole pub, girlfriend scene!

So kids aren't always an advantage!

Did you compile this yourself? Although it's intended as a bit of fun it really gives a bit more visibility to the things that matter. Simple but effective!

Ought to be a sticky in this forum.

+75 for us - someone else I know who did it was below 50 and sure enough they're looking at returning to the UK (not saying that that's the case for anyone with a low score of course).

Last edited by Kalenge; Sep 18th 2010 at 1:28 am. Reason: Previously scored +95, but missed the question on having family that we saw regularly in the uk so minus 20 for that.

I think this is a little flawed. I reckon many of these people would be as happy as pigs in sh!t in some parts of Aus.

High score, but then I'm an old fart with no mortgage and am self-employed.

I have stolen the next bit from this article (which should be required reading).

"5. Independence, i.e. not tied to family, friends, social circles etc.
Sunday lunch with Mum & Dad every weekend?
You’re the nieces and nephews favourite ‘Uncle Pete’ and you know all their birthdays?
It’s your turn to host the weekly dinner party for your extensive circle of friends?
You get homesick and ring your wife 8 times when you have to stay overnight in a hotel with your work?
If you see yourself in any of the above, then unpack your bags now. Watch an episode of 'Wanted Down Under,' you'll soon see what I mean."

Totally agree Alistair. Close family who you see regularly is a massive plus for being settled anywhere and the reverse applies probably more so.
