Ready to Go! (Questions)
Hi Everyone,
First time we have posted but have been reading the forum for over a year now. Have managed to glee lots of info from previous threads.
We gained our visas last July and are just about to book flights for Nov to Brisbane. We want to settle in the Gold Coast. Spent all of Feb in Oz checking places out and we loved it.
I have few questions:
1) Initial first couple of weeks. Is it best to book a self-catering apartment rather than a hotel/BB (thinking of the money)?
2) We are going to hire a car for a couple of weeks. How quickly can you purchase a car, is it a long process?
3) We have read up on transferring pensions but I am still unsure on what is the best/correct procedure is to follow. Should we talk to a financial company before we go?
4) Where do we get the dog license from?
So much to sort out......
Cheers

Hi Jules and Dex.
Welcome to the forum. I cant answer many of your questions, but dont worry someone else will know the answers
We are also off to the Gold Coast in September. I would suggest that you would be better staying in a self catering apartment for the first few weeks as it would be cheaper than a B&B.
Try www.karanapalms.com.au it is a nice place and very cheap.
Good luck.

Jules & Dex,
We are flying to Brisbane in August (hopefully) and have booked a self contained holiday apartment for about $450 per week. The hotels/motels were working out to be more expensive.
Cars are as easy to buy as in the UK but from what I can gather there is more haggling to be done over in Oz so prepare to barter and don't forget the duty on cars.
We have looked into the pensions side of it and there is a company in Oxford that will do it for you but charge a fortune. We've been advisedto take as much pension info as possible over and then when we are ready to set up a new pension they will deal with the transfer of the UK based one. Remember you have to do it within 6 months ans you become liable for tax in both countries.
Dunno about the doggy thing!!!
