flights in oz are expensive compared to what we pay in uK.
It will cost you around 900 quid for a small dog to fly.
I think they do 2 wks quaranatine
THey need blood and poo tests.
You have to apply for an import permit.
Do you have any contacts in oz that owuld let you use their address?
Where willl you stay on your first night in oz?

We are using Airpets and its costing us a couple of grand to send our bearded collie and thats without the connection from SYD to Bris.
I am awaiting a quote for that internal flight from [email protected]. You'll have to email them the dogs weight to get a quote.
Good luck.

Just found out not only do you need to apply to OZ for an import permit you also have to apply to defra for an export licence, which I have been told by airpets needs an exact date of flight as part of it will be returned to the vet you are using 10 days before travel. It just gets worse, how much more paperwork is beyond me for a dinky doggy.
Airpets need to know a date for flight, and seeing as defra need one to do the export licence we have decided our mutt is going out on the 10th Aug regardless of what we end up doing.
Hope this helps
Jenny

We were going to use airpets, but chatted to golden arrow.
We liked their style and attitude.
They take care of everything and/or facilitate you taking care of the rest.
They were also one third cheaper than the other place.
Competent, professional, caring.
Just the kind of people you would want to look after your beast

I live In the Brisbane area,(gold coast)It's about $350.00 for an internal flight from sydney to Brisbane airport,There are specialist carriers here that collect your dog from the Quarrantine station in Sydney, supply the pet carrier etc and put the dog on the plane,(the price quoted is for a german shepherd).
I did not know this before I arrived,so here's your warning!!take heed!!
Queensland, has ticks, paralitic ticks, they are deadly to dogs, cats, even humans, there is no defence againts them, there are helpful preventions, like frontlining your dog every 14days during tick season.but it is impotant to inspect your dog every day,and after every walk.
Cane toads are everywhere during the summer months, and are deadly if bitten or licked by a dog,(they kill more native birds and snakes than anything else).
Heartworm is another jab that your dog will need,it's given here once a year, also if the dog is ever going into a private kennel's,it will require kennel cough injections on top of the usual ones.
sorry to be a bit of a kill joy,but at least you know prior to bringing your dog here.
If you require any further help, please ask.
Regards
Keith.

thanx for the informative reply keith........
funny u shd mention the tick.....
here is a paragraph from an email i have received.....
Its very hot here at the moment, about 30 – 35 degrees, and its very humid too. Jack was sick at school yesterday, after doing a double PE lesson. I think its cruel to make then do PE in this heat, its even too hot for sunbathing. They’re supposed to wear hats and sunscreen and drink lots of water but I’m not sure that Jack did any of that. Trudi was also off school as she cut her foot open on a friend’s electric scooter, we thought she’d need stitches but she got away with it. She also got a nasty sting the other day, whilst swimming in the sea from something called a blue bottle, its wraps these stringy things around you and stings you with them. And a few months ago she got a ‘tic’ in her hair from a walk in the rainforest. Poor Trudi – she seems to be getting the brunt of everything! Still, we haven’t seen any snakes or red back spiders yet but we have seen lots of koala bears and kangaroos.
thanx again
