This might sound like a stupid question but ice cream lovers will understand.

Can you get Ben & Jerry's and Hagen Daaz in Oz or do they just have their own ice cream?

Definitely no on the Ben & Jerry's. I haven't seen Hagen Daaz either, but maybe you can get it over east? Ice cream here (particularly what you buy in the supermarket) is amazingly crap - mostly basic flavours, full of preservatives... Considering it's such a hot country, somebody should be making a mint out of selling decent ice cream!!!

I'm planning on starting a campaign to bring Ben & Jerry to Australia!!!!

Sadly, there is no B&J - they have Haagen daz but it's a poor substitute in my book. That said, there are some really great ice-cream parlours though, one in Melbourne in Ackland street called 7 Apples and it's fantastic, they have flavours like Ferrero Roche, Snickers, white chocolate etc (it can be quite an ordeal trying to pick just one or two flavours). I reckon they will have similar places all over OZ (probably with a different name).

They best B&J's flavour was chocolate chip cookie dough gorgeous....and half-baked, that was good too.

We have Haagen Daz, Norgen Vaaz, New Zealand Natural, Baskin Robbins - though nowadays gelato seems to be more popular than ordinary ice cream. Specialist gelato bars are everywhere - Gelatissimo, Gelato Messina etc

I emailed them a couple of years ago, to see if they sold it anywhere in OZ.
They did reply saying they didnt at the moment, but were constanly working on opportunites in other markets....

So there you go, get on to them and you can open up the first Ben & Jerry in OZ, anywhere around Perth's fine

I personally like the Royal Copenhagen ice cream and find it difficult to walk past the ones in Manly - usually have to have melted chocolate on top. If I buy ice cream at home - I usually buy Weiss bars (blackcurrent, raspberry, macadamia or mango) except for if it has to go with apple pie....then I buy Bulla Country Cream creamy vanilla. Premium ice cream.

I did used to like the cookie dough and I haven't found a replacement for it...(this is probably a good thing!) - I'm thinking Baskin Robbins may have that.

One of our local Ice Cream places, in Cleveland, adds options into the ice cream.
You choose your flavoured ice cream, then the options you want, and they mash up the option into the ice cream before putting it into the cone.

Last time I went I had 4 strawberries put in. Other options include Caramel Koalas, mini Mars Bar, etc etc.

If anyone local is interested, it's that one at Raby Bay near the Hogs Breath cafe.
