Hi Mandy,
This isn't something I've thought of. What would constitute an emergency that you would need money in the UK for?
I'm probably being a bit thick, but I can't think of one right now....

Re: Rainy day money for family emergencies
I always have some money in my UK account. I have anywhere between L100 and L2000 depending on how flush I am here. I use my UK account (chip and pin) when I go home rather than my credit card. Should have said that it is easier to transfer money from my UK ac to my son's UK account or my parents' rather than having to pay the transfer fee for every transaction. I have one son who has emigrated back to UK and has been through some sticky moments.

Yeah we left one of or UK bank accounts open and have kept some money in there. Weren't really thinking about emergencies to be honest, but we use it to buy birthday and xmas presents for our family in the UK and they use it to put money in for our birthdays and stuff.
But yeah its there in the event of an emergency either way.

Yup we have. Our reasoning? If both of us die and we need my brother or sister to come out for the girls we can pay them back Sorry not a funny subject but about 30 seconds after we thought that we were crying on the floor at how stupid that was

yes we left about 3k in a nationwide e-saver a/c which we manage online, but it's pretty pointless on reflection cos it's easy to transfer money back via tranzfers etc and we can use our credit cards in the UK-but i suppose it avoids paying the foreign exchange surcharge on our Oz CCs.

It is for as someone else has suggested, to pay for airfare if needed quickly. Also if we have to return for a death/illness in the family.
Don't know why but will feel better knowing it's there.
