Think the rain must be making up for what we didnt get last year, who remembers last winter hardly a drop from May to about october, god it got dusty and brown. Then the summer just gone, just one storm all summer.

Going to brisbane yesterday was even more fun, an overturned truck load of capsicums and onions had closed one lane of the highway just before rush hour :scared:

School holidays driving us mad too, I like the summer ones, with a pool easy amusement, trouble is you get all the neighbours kids too.

DANGEROUS surf, huge tides, heavy rain and damaging 90km/h winds are set to lash southeast Queensland today after drought turned to flood yesterday.

Weather bureau severe weather expert Jeff Callaghan said a low-pressure system off the coast was eerily reminiscent of the 1996 and 1973 flood years.

There was severe flooding in May 1996 and again in July 1973 - the year the cargo ship Cherry Venture was driven ashore on Fraser Island by big seas.

A 10.65m monster wave was recorded off the Tweed coast yesterday

I just read same report on msn news.

Jeff Callaghan, a severe weather expert with the Bureau of Meteorology, said the southern end of the Gold Coast had recorded falls of 368mm in the past 24 hours.
This Jeff Callaghan is a very severe bloke.

Yes i know we need it but its soooo depressing :( some are saying this is the wettest June on record? for me i hate being reminded of the miserable weather of back home! my garden is swimming in water, even the dog is reluctant to pee outside !! & the kids are on school holidays so stuck indoors
These last few days have really opened my eyes to any dreams of constant sunshine!!

Just had a call from hubby, all his calls were in the Gold Coast this morning & he has been told to turn back as the roads surrounding the Gold Coast are shut off,it has taken him an hour to get to Brackenridge! (usually ten minutes)as if three kids at home wasn't enough for me to cope with, hubby's on his way home too :p

Anyone on their way to Brisbane make sure you pack your raincoats, wellies & umbrella!!

Donna.

Amazing thing is Donna,
I was driving to work this morn, and still there are idiots doing 120K's in the outside lane :scared:

Really annoying, I set off earlier because of it why didn't they think to do this as well

Real bad here on the tweed 500 mm in less than 24 hrs., Pacific highway now closed from tweed down to Grafton , most roads around us now in flood....couldn't get to daughters pony at Bilambil heights, really worried. Its been raining here heavy for the passed 5 days 24/7 and i mean rain , got most of the way in the patrol but thought the better of trying to cross the bridge ( more water flowing over it then underneath it....

Have rang around to try and see if anyone has made it to the paddock , around 20 horses, there is some high ground , hoping they've managed to reach it......

Oh my god!!! :scared: All the buildings disintegrated!!!!

Or are those not pictures of Brisbane?

Look, I understand there is a drought, but putting on the macho aussie attitude of 'yeah we love 3 weeks of rain' is rubbish. Rain is a pain in the butt, especially when you've got outdoor stuff to do.

Yes, rain is necessary, but we don't have to pretend to like it,

No macho aussies round here, just a very depressed one moaning constantly about lost time due to rain :D

We have lost weeks on end to it lately and worse still some jobs are at the scaffold stage, with each job being $700 to $1000 a week on safety compliant scaffold its very expensive rain  No wages this week.

You should have grabbed some of the capsicums - they're a bl**dy ridiculous price in the supermarkets, and I can never find any decent looking ones to stuff.
Did the truck have any mushrooms? another thing which I find stupidly priced here. :D

In all seriousness though, it's the only bad crack about this rain - the way that some of them drive.
driving is a nightmare, the number of idiots stuck on the outside lane yesterday going back home (on the motorway) just doing 50k - I come across more of those than speeding in the rain, braking all the time instead of getting over to the left - I wish the police would start enforcing these 90k laws - keep left, unless overtaking.

But no,they're more interested in lining their coffers with speeding fines, speed traps etc etc, instead of enforcing all the other road rules too.
They are bl**dy dangerous in the rain.

It's supposed to be totally dry by tomorrow and for the weekend - a fine weekend, but wait it's going to be cold in the nights at the weekend. "ooh I'm cold" etc etc
then time summer comes - ooh it's hot and humid

next time try and grab some capsicums though, forget the lettuce ,the price is ok at the moment - ooh, ooh and if you see any leeks on an overturned truck get some of those - I paid $5 for a bunch for them last weekend - $5!!!!! - bl88dy rip off I tell you!. I haven't seen any over turned trucks for months the last one I came across was full of cattle - but that was no good , just my luck I'm a veggie.

thought I'd have a gripe at the prices of some of the veggies, the rain will clear , which is a pity.

cheers:)

Re: The rain in Brisbane.!!

Dunno what all the fuss is about, according to the BOM you guys have only had 89.2mm of rain in June, we've managed 251mm so far in Perth

Adelaide 2nd on 141mm
Brisbane 3rd on 89.2mm
Sydney 4th on 79mm
Canberra 5th on 73mm
Melbourne 6th on 43mm
Hobart 7th on 38mm (surprised at that one)
Darwin 8th on 0mm ( :D )

Steve :)

Just checked out the Gold Coast :scared: 413.8mm so far and 350mm of it yesterday. Brisbane only showing 40.8 yesterday, thats a pretty
amazing difference.

No one said they liked 3 weeks of rain, I have 2 kids stuck at home on school holidays as well, I have a backyard that is an absolute quagmire (you cant cut your grass? Think yourself lucky, I HAVE no grass, its just mud!) & I have tenants coming tommorrow to our rental & I have to wash & dry a houseful of towels & sheets. But Im not bitching & whinging that its raining when we've not had any decent rain since December or January.

the leeks were $4.99 in Woolworth's for a bunch - think there was about 4 in the bunch, which shocked me - I'm easily shocked lol. They are leeks for gawds sake, I should get discount for them being one of the national symbols of Wales , it's racism I tells youse!. I think I'll phone current affair and have a whinge!
Now parsnips!! :scared:
I did actually buy just two or three of these on the weekend - I know when I looked at my receipt - I was again very shocked at this rip off lol - a few dollars just for 3 parsnips! It was the most expensive veggie on my receipt ( besides the strawberries - don't even start on the strawberries, which are out of season so the prices are high, but that is no excuse !) .

I left the supermarket in total utter disgust. I didn't think australia would be like this
;)
