It's 9.10am here in Melb & ABC Radio National's 'Life Matters' currently on air is about to be devoted to "Migrants who came here looking for a better life - what did they mean by 'better'?".
At very least will help me get thru some VERY tedious work.... (co-incidentally, their other current feature is 'the worst job you have ever done'
)

The common thread that came thru, tho', is how tough immigration has been over the years on women. Historically, they've had to follow their husbands (the breadwinners) wherever they chose to go, and have tended to be housewives and homemakers. As a result, it was primarily the women who suffered from isolation & homesickness, whereas the men tended to be out at work, so at least got to mix with, and meet, people.
I wonder how this aspect will change, now that more women work out of the home on a daily basis, and more men have home-based jobs (eg in IT)?
Interesting, eh?
