on the radio...

I'm having a ball here but even the staunchest defender of Oz would surely struggle with the tv and radio. TV isnt a problem for us, I just dont turn it on, but I was chuffed to find my old radio station on-line, Birminghams local dance and RnB in Brisbane, its fantastic. (and please dont tell me I should be listening to local stuff and integrating, I've tried it I promise;) )

nice one. I hadly turn on my nice TV - bought only weeks ago. Cos I'm on here as my prime source of entertainment. But when MrsB turns up we will probably much more as we find it nice to watch together and discuss it.

I am thinking of getting Foxtel as I want NRL. I like AFL after a fashion but league's my game.

I've got a few old fav DVDs. I used to listen to radio in the car in Blighty. Listen to,and am a fan of ABC here now. Its Radio 4 but with less plum in the mouth.

Once I can afford it, I want to get broadband and start listening to internet radio from the UK. I miss Jonathan Ross and John Peel the most. Having said that I find, DJs apart, Triple J to be pretty good.

As for TV... we tape almost everything then just FF past all the annoying ads, weather/news/sports updates. Don't really find the programmes any worse than in the UK: 24, Survivor, Sienfeld, Simpsons, Malcolm in Middle... still watching all the same things really.

OK... I admit though 'Average Joe' is one American show too far :D

Thomaz,
I'am completely technically ignorant but we havnt got broadband but can get UK radio on the internet...or did you mean without tying up the phoneline???
Badge, Will wants foxtel for some sporty stuff is there anything else worth watching on there or more american rubbish? As hes working a lot of late nights and I cant get out because of Millie, maybe it'd keep me off here a bit;)

Can't help much as all I want is NRL - National Rugby League played in State of Origin - NSW and QLD, with a few franchises in Canberra and Melbourne.

It is linked to region, the Foxtel programming is slightly different- there is less NRL in VIC on Foxtel, than AFL but you will get a game. Terrestial TV in VIC does not show NRL as far as I can see.

There will be American showboating like NFL, I guess, but also rugby union, and a range of Eurostuff. SBS shows soccer on late.

cheers

That's interesting... you can get radio online okay with dial-up? I've had no luck up to now and put it down to a very slow connection - fastest I get with the phone lines where I am is 31 Kbps and I've heard you really need a 500K connection to get radio/tv over the net but maybe I should have another go?

Thanks :)

Free to air TV in Oz sucks (SBS is ok). Get Foxtel or some other pay-tv.

As for radio, I've been a JJJ fan ever since it was JJ in Sydney. I remember the days of Helen Razor and Mikey Robins at each other during the morning drive. And Brother Maynard!

Glad to hear you are getting the NRL this year.

Someone else posted this link which leads to loads of Radio stations around the world.

http://www.mikesradioworld.com/

When working evenings I listen to X-FMs morning show.

Here I listen to JJJ, Bondi FM (seriously relaxed), FBI (good alternative station) and Merrick and Rosso on Nova in the morning.

I used to say to folks "there's this great Aussie radio station JJJ ... it supports local bands and has great banter, come and listen on the web"

The speakers would then fill with progressive-rhythm-and-goth noise or somesuch and a droning presenter.

It took me a while to realise that I was listening to the dead zone 4am shows on a bright sunny day.

Your in luck Thomaz

If you goto the BBC website, radio then radio 2 you can listen to Johnathon Ross any time of the week as its recorded. You can also catch up with Mark and Lards sketchs as they are recorded too.

Does any one know how to save these and listen when offline?

Keel
