Default Radar detectors

Hi all,

Will my radar detector (Snooper S5 Radar/laser detector) work in Oz ?

And are they legal/available in Australia ?

It will work but there are radar detector detectors in QLD. If your caught using one the fine seems to be between $500 and 1k, they tear your bloody car apart trying to find it as well. A business bloke here threw his out of his window after he knew he'd been caught. Six nice policemen spent most of the day looking for it by the roadside just so he could be prosecuted.
Laws vary state to state so do a search.
Ceri posted in a thread a while ago about them.
You will quickly learn that speeding is just not an option if you live here in Qld just allow longer for your journey.

Don't know, but...
the traffic alerts on some radio stations warn you where there are mobile speed cameras. I think that's a fantastic idea.

Arn't google ads great! If you look at the bottom of this thread you'll see lots of adverts for radar detectors, even though we are discussing how they are illegal. All brought to you courtesy of Google Ads. (they are illegal, in QLD anyway)

I wonder if I started a thread on crack cocaine would it give online sites for that too?

Cheers,
JTL

I think that's a little naive. I have a flawless driving record, without an accident in my entire driving career, and hold advanced driving and motorcycling qualifications.

The effort I've put into learning advanced roadcraft could indeed save someone's life, and the skills I've learned are a useful tool in road safety. The radar detector I use is another tool I use when driving, and I asked, quite reasonably, whether I would be able to use it in Australia. I did not ask for a lecture on road safety which I neither require nor welcome.
