In Perth people were really nice no problems - certainly got jobs quick enough stayed for 3 months making money to fund the next leg of my journey travelled all down the coast and just kept getting browner a few vibes in some places but nothing was said - worst vibes were in Broome but having said that also met very nice people - No probs in Darwin, Alice Springs or Cairns in fact in Cairns got offered a job to do topless waitressing at the local aussie rules game - despite being broke I turned it down!!! By time I got back to Sydney I was practically black - I got stared at getting back to hostel but only because I had a giant rucksack with a digeridoo hanging off it together with a ridiculous straw hat on my head that I thought was cool (it wasnt!!) - 1 week into being back in Sydney a man in a bar (he was very drunk) starting making ape impressions at me - a good kick in the balls soon set him straight - added to that the owners threw him out! Unfortunately Im not the "turn the other cheek" kind of person!!
Anyway after all that long story above - you must be all tired!! I apologise - point - being that people are ignorant everywhere you go doesnt matter who they are where they live or what background they come from you will find ignorant people - people I expected to be ignorant were lovely and people I expected better of (old bat comes to mind) were ignorant.
You cant go over with any expectations just take it as it comes. Australia is very multi-cultural except when it comes to the Aborigines at least in my experience.

As for ex cons - yes, don't judge a book by a cover. one of mates is a bit rough around the edges (been in jail a few times - not saying any more about him) He's a nice guy, one of the ones that will go out of his way to help you.

Have you read the afternoon funnie if you want another laugh? It was pretty good.
As for my story - god I had such a fantastic time and got into all sorts of problems at the time looked serious but afterwards I had to laugh - wrote off a hire car in Tasmania and had to go to local church to ask for a bed for the nite as I was so skint having to cough up for the car!! As for the guy with the sore balls - that was a lucky kick!! I doubt if I had chanced it if he was sober - as he was a big boy and I dont mean the way he would have wanted!!

So the easy target of calling all Australians "Racsist"to help the smug few of being politicacly correct and grandois in the eyes of the downtrodden miniorities.

I answered Wesley's original question - relating to "Racism in Australia" - where he asked for our experiences etc. I gave an account of my own experiences and concluded by saying that their are ignorant people everywhere. I certainly would not class myself as PC and am pretty aware that some words have different meanings in different countries and cultures and therefore have a different effect. Being of a mixed race background I have experienced racism in the UK growing up in the late 70's and 80's in fact I have the physical scars to prove it but am fortunate in that I do not carry a chip on my shoulder as a result.
Nobody as far as I can see from the threads submitted are concluding that all "whitey" australians are racist. I have worked in Australia and lived in mostly in Perth and Sydney however I travelled the length and breadth of the country and stopped in many smaller towns - whilst in Perth I worked for the Aboriginal Legal Centre and got a glimpse of what is happening - and as for the issue of land and money to Aboriginals - I believe that is called guilt.

My apoligies Rizalan if I jumped too quick off my high horse as I got the feeling that this post was going to turn into the standard Anti- Australian outpouring by the rabble of Hate Aussies by the ill informed Perth wanna be Aussies,plus a few Queenslanders,who couldnt handle life here so drag all and sundry down too their level.

As for it colouring my view on life - never - like I said there is good and bad - and to be honest the bad was in the minority - majority of australians I met were great, I shared a house with some Aussies who were a bit mad but in the nicest possible way.
I cant wait to go back and live permanently as I enjoyed it so much the last time.

the white regime in south africa was propped up- via oil etc- by britian and america not because they particulary liked their way of doing things but it suited our purpose.
that being to keep the anc out of power

well ANC is a communist party (as is nelson Mandela)
america was scared that if south africa became ruled by the communists then it would spread up through the continent and become a dominant force. it had enough trouble looking after those 'pesky ruskies'
this all changed when the B. wall collapsed and communism declined into a spent force.
Once america became happy at this' turn of events' the white g.ment in s.a was allowed to wither on the vine (mass exodus of foreign investments etc) and hence apartied ended...and the results are there for all to see...
it had nothing to do with any black/white issues or morality etc..

It is surprising to hear of the amount of corruption at upper Maori tribal levels whilst many of the young go unemployed and bored (I forget the Maori youth unemployment level but it is something like 30s depression level).

AN Aboriginal elder has told two High Court judges they did not have permission to sit under the Australian Coat of Arms.
Kevin Buzzacott, of the Aboriginal tent embassy in Canberra, spoke out during a failed bid to have the High Court hear a theft charge.
Buzzacott, aged in his 50s, is charged with stealing the coat of arms from Old Parliament House the day after Australia Day last year.
The case is set for hearing in the Canberra Magistrates Court on June 2.

Yep that's the sort of thing.
One of the things for the future here is that the Treaty Of Waitangi - signed in 1840 by Maoris and Poms for Queen Vic to get rule over NZ but with Maoris assigned land ownership and buy and sell rights - is increasingly being interpreted very literally and just the other day there was some NZ govt bloke saying that they will soon be giving the Maoris rights that are denied the white NZers here (an example is that the Maori language is protected under law here but that English is not) - that his hands are tied and that Queen Vic signed up to it and there is nothing he can do.
This might seem trivial, but the Maori elders tend to pick up on this sort of thing to make a bit of a stir or a few quid - course the money doesn't trickle down to the Maori mums and dads though.
You might have heard of it, but they just had a big scandal over here about a lady Maori MP who was using money for a Maori kids literacy scheme to get her business off the ground and getting her stomach stapled. I thought it was David Mellor in a wig and dress up to his old tricks again at first.

The Abo was hunted down and put up no fight , then they tried to bred out the race and the biggest problems come from the half breeds the full breeds are on the whole good people .
