Hi we went over to oz last christmas and to my dismay couldn't find quorn anywhere, Started at Brisbane travelled down to Sydney.
My Husband and daughter are veggie I cook with it all the time maybe we should open a quorn shop in Oz!!

Can't stand soya beans and not too keen on Tofu either.

I,ve been veggie for many years and found that perth in Australia was very limited with it,s veggie style food. I know that Adelaide also doenst have much in the way off veegie stuff so I suppose Melbourne must be the same.
Uk does seem to have a very good choice compared to other countries I have been to.

I just eat loads of salad and pasta when in Aus. I found that chinese type restaurants were good for veggies

I've been a veggie all my life and must say that Quorn was a god send, Tofu and that sort of thing have no taste or texture to speak of!!

I normally phone the telephone number on the Quorn packet if I'm travelling somewhere new and they give me info on what Quorn is branded as in that particular country and a supermarket chain that I may be able to buy it from.

It works for Europe and if they sell it over in Aus the manufacturers will know.

I have been to a place in Quorn in South Australia. Didn't see any veggies there. SA not very pro veggie - anyone I Knew regarded veggies as objects of derision and scorn. Remember the great Aussie cultural event, the barbie, is a hommage to meat and more meat. Didn't see much specialised vegetarian grub but plenty of fresh fruit and veg.

As a dedicated carnivore I'm not really qualified here (although when I foolishly tried to lose weight once I was known to use quorn to bulk up a chilli). But I have got some tree-hugging friends so try to keep up on these things....

Quorn is a brand name for a mycoprotein developed by Marlow Foods (part of Rank Hovis) and although marketed in Europe since 1985 it has only just started to spread - it was finally approved by the FDA in the US in 2001 and launched there last year. To the best of my knowledge it is not yet available as a domestic product in Aus, although it may be imported and there may be other similar products available.

TVP is readily available (yes - I know it tastes like a cardboard box that the cat's slept in, but you can get away with it if you use enough garlic!).

I'm told that there are some good mass market products coming out over there - look for the Sanitarium and Longa-Life product range in supermarkets (Notburgers, NotDogs and NotBacon).

Finally have a look at http://www.vnv.org.au/Products.htm for a range of veggie products available in oz.

QUORN, a lovely little town ,in the lower Flinders ranges ,in south australia. as far as veggie substitutes go, why not settle for the real thing, we can [sth oz]buy any amount of fresh veggies at any road side stall , or at the adelaide, central markets,[gourmet heaven], a couple of cousins who were over last year reckon they had never tasted better food especially tomatoes........MM:beer:

Like you im a veggie and when i lived in London, i ate loads of Quorn and really enjoyed all their products, but when i came to aus last year on holiday, i really missed quorn as it has never been heard of out here!!

One of the first things i did when we got back home was to go on the Quorn website, the address is all the product packets.

I asked if there were plans to send quorn to australia, and i got a nice reply explaining about the problems with all the 'red tape' with the depts. of agriculture etc. because quorn is manufactured from a kind of mushroom origin ie. fungus! this causes problems with the imporation of it. There was some mention about the possibility of it being manufactured here under license but dont know if there have been any developments with that.

I now live in Melbourne, and find there are so many veggie restaurants and veggie options everywhere and have no problems finding good tasty interesting food.

A lot depends on why you are a veggie, but if its due to all the chemicals, growth hormones etc used in a lot of meat eaten in the uk, then over here, you can buy all organically fed and free range chicken and other meat everywhere and its really cheap! My partner who's not a veggie, says the meat here is the best he's tasted anywhere in the world, and he really has been
everywhere!! I now have chicken occasionally! which makes life a lot easier when your at someones house for a barby!!
