Hi. I think you can use the Cirrus or Maestro things which are on the back of a lot of Switch Cards. My switch card worked here when I first arrived but I only used it at ATMs.

Depends..., most banks allow a few free uses of other ATMs a month. HSBC allow 5 or 6, cant remember. Most people use cash back at the supermarkets so avoiding the use of ATMs.

(by 'most people' I mean me and Mrs JTL )

If it is a UK card then YES there are charges by the UK bank.
eg:
There is a handling fee of 1.5% (minimum £1.75) for withdrawing cash at Cirrus/Maestro cash machines worldwide. Foreign exchange rates are shown on your statement against each transaction inclusive of an exchange rate adjustment, currently 2.75%
So 2.75% + £1.75 minimum for this one.

ANZ is great. My son has a everyday account that cost him $5 a month unlimited withdrawals. no fee for internet like the commonwealth bank!!!
We have no fees due to the fact we have a mortgage with them.Cheap interest rate and a free credit card!!
If you have all your business with them they give you benefits!!!!
Sound good to me

First direct (hsbc) costs £9 a month . Worth it if you travel often.
