Quick voltage question.

Very quick question. what voltage are we on here in Aus. I keep seeing different voltages on things, do we have a range or a set voltage like 230 or 240?

240V and 50Hz, same as UK. Many devices are made to operate in 230V-240V range and often 50-60Hz, hence the variation in what it says on the sticker.

Most devices will run on voltages between 220-240V. Most modern power supplies for laptops & other electronic supplies will run on voltages between 110-240V. Check the labels on the equipment that you are using.

I thought the UK reduced the voltage a year or two back to make it common with the EU - and the rest of the continong increased theirs from 220V?

UK & Australia have the same voltage, 415V 3 phase/240V single phase (415V divided by sq root of 3 to get single phase. Can you tell I'm an electrical engineer:) ). Other countries, like South Africa, have 380V 3 phase/220V single phase. Most normal domestic equipment will work happily on either.

no not at all
we still supply at 415/240volts
all we did was a paper exercise to keep in line with EU
ie regulations used to say the supply voltage was + or - 4%
therfore 240v + or - 9.6v
= minimum voltage of 230.4 v

its now been changed to + 4% -9%
giving 240v - 21.6 = 218.4 volts
( alot of twaddle to keep the EU happy )

Thanks for the info!

(We MUST keep the EU happy, naturally! Don't want them to throw their toys out of the pram, do we....)
