A quick hello
Hi,
thought I would post finally after reading the forum for a few weeks now. myself and my girlfriend have decided 100% to move to Australia and 90% certain on Brisbane We sadly cant apply yet as my girlfirend moved into my house around 3 years ago and just pays money into my bank to cover bills, so we have very little evidence to prove our 3 year relationship (her family lives 5 mins away and she left her bills there). I am an IT Manager with around 8 years experience and my girlfriend works in Marketing with around 2 years experience. She has a Degree in Business and IT and I have a Diploma in Computer Studies (I also completed 2 years of my degree, but during my year out was offered a job to good to turn down) We are both in good health, i will be 30 this year and her 25. We would likely have around £300,000 to move with after the sale of assets. So hopefully going out there in September for a recce for 3 weeks, the as soon as we arrive back we will be submitting the application. How does that stack up Thanks Mike |

Stacks up pretty well I think. You're both in professions where you shouldn't have a problem getting work and you've got a decent chunk of wedge. Welcome! Can I ask why Brisbane?
can you tell me why I shouldnt? |

We decided on Brisbane for a few reasons mainly the all year round weather though, and friends in close proximity (1 hours drive).
can you tell me why I shouldnt? Yeah the weather is pretty good up here, though it has been raining non-stop for about two months now! (We need the rain though and at least it's not cold). Good luck with your plans - will you do a recce just in Brisbane or visit other cities as well? |

Good luck with your plans - will you do a recce just in Brisbane or visit other cities as well? Mainly Brisbane and the surrounding areas, drive around the suburbs etc.. really try hard not to do touristy things all the time look at housing market, speak to an agent im considering buying a $300,000 apartment in the CBD of brisbane and using it as my base to start with, then moving out into the suburbs and renting the apartment out. |
Re: A quick hello
Hi & welcome :)
I would start thinking "outside the box" regarding proving this relationship thingy - we're pretty much in the same boat - we've been together for 3 years now, but ran two separate houses with separate finances for work purposes (he was in London & I stayed in Devon to keep the kids school continuous) What they're looking for is evidence of committed & ongoing relationship, so if you can demonstrate that to the satisfaction of DIAC, you should be okay :) Lots of things can show that - joint invites to things, phone bills showing how you kept in touch with each other, money going in & out of each other's accounts for whatever reason, holidays taken together...... Best of luck on your reccie - be sure to let us know how it goes  |
Re: A quick hello
We were in the same boat, including all the letters, cards, invites etc we submitted staturory declarations from friends and family who knew us saying we were a 'proper' couple. There are loads of posts about De Facto evidence. Have a wee scout about but I'm sure this would not cause you any problems maybe just abit more paper work
