Use this as a guide.

http://www.rockportinstitute.com/resumes.html

Like all employers, you need to impress them in the first few seconds.

No such thing as a current Australian format. Don't put referees on your CV. Employment is in reverse chronological order. Put your skills before your employment history. Put education/qualifications after employment (unless you are a recent graduate or no previous employment).

That's more aligned to what US employers want which is a bit different to the UK and Australia. Australian CV's/resumes are along the same format as UK ones.

I do resumes for people a lot and have used that format for them all - both in the UK and Australia. I do obviously adapt them for each individual but the people who I do resumes for get an interview 95% of the time.

I have been complimented on my personal resume format by the head of recruitment at Uni SA and also by the employment agency I worked for last year.

100% of the candidates' CV's that I represent to clients get job interviews and i've placed people in Australia, UK, USA and Europe over the last 15 years.

Most universities wouldn't know a good CV if it slapped them in the face.

I suspected something along those lines.

Wendy this CV is actually just for a file reference, the company concerned already has all this from their in depth application form. Interview date is already set.

They requested a CV for file reference at the last minute. If it was for getting an Interview I would be knee deep in that

Just to clarify what do you mean by skills , I always thought your qualifications where your skills.

Hard skills. For example an IT person might specialise in .Net programming but qualifications might be a BSc Degree. .Net would be the skill.

A secretary's skill might be typing at 120 wpm and shorthand.

Qualifications only shown that a person has completed a course of education. Skills show what you can actually do. Make sure these skills are relative to the job.
