Default Questions on buying a car - tax, insurance etc

Hope someone can help with some good information on the various rules and taxes regarding buying a car. We're going to Queensland.

Is luxury car tax only payable if a car is less than two years old?
Is it only payable if it's a trade sale (rather than private)
Is stamp duty payable regardless of whether a private or trade sale?
Any idea on the cost to register a car - is that always payable?

Any tips on where to go for competitive insurance, and whether UK insurance record counts towards no claims? Does the system re no claims work similarly to the UK?

Any advice on whether it's a good or bad idea to buy privately

Many many thanks in advance for help. If there's an existing thread which answers all these questions perhaps someone can point me to it - I've had a bit of a rummage but couldn't find anything...
