If hubby is a motor mechanic then he is on the demand list.
This "should" speed up the visa app.
Get your TRA done first http://workplace.gov.au/TRA
Then you can apply as a skilled migrant if you have 120 points or more then go for 136 skilled independent visa .
Tra Can be as quick as 6-7 weeks or up to 3-6months if you pay the higher amount then should be less than 3 months,
Main apps are taking 3-6 months at the moment.
All these time can change and do Good Luck.

You can't just "come over and apply".

If you want to migrate you need to get your migration visa organised *before* you make any move.

Look at the information on http://www.immi.gov.au

Even if you get the job offer you are talking about, you'll need a work permit to work in Australia, and even with such a permit you'll need to work out a way to get permanent residence otherwise you'll face coming home when the job ends. Many employers will not sponsor for permanent visas - only temporary ones.

You'll get more of a response if you ask immigration questions on the immigration forum, but on a free forum like this you can't necessarily expect a response within 2 hours.
