Default Question re: Buying a house?

When buying a house in Oz (not at an auction), with regard to the price that they are marketing it at do they expect you to put in 'offers around' like our English house buying system or are they expecting 'offers above' like the Scottish buying system?

Apologies if this question has already been asked!

Thanks.

J.

Offers around is fine. Ours is on the market for a bit more than we'd actually settle for.

For God's sake don't just jump in - the Oz realtors make others look like angels! The market is still way too high and sellers with any sense will offload their properties before they get hit badly. Take time to investigate what properties go for compared with their advertised prices a week or two before the sale - there is quite a difference!

Both "make an offer and negotiate" and "offers over $XXX" are used here. Also tenders can be called, with no actual price shown, if the vendor wants to go that way, is becoming quite common nowadays.
