Question on Medical Emergency in Perth
I heard people in Sydney with severe pains might wait for hours and hours for medical help in emergency and they are not given anything but panadol.
Im wondering if anybody knows :
- What is situation like in Perth?
- What hospital should you go if something happens (Mount Pleasant area or just any good hospital)?
- What happens if you have a toddler with you and not able to look after him?

I can't comment on your area but I read earlier that you had been here for 2 summers. Surely in that time you have met someone that could look after your child in case of emergency. If you haven't I suggest your start building a network.

Im sure if you had to go to hospital they would let you take your child with you until you got some help.Try not worry to much about it.Is your health generally good.Perhaps join some Mum and toddler groups. That way you can both make friends and then maybe get some help with childcare.

If it's more of a GP issue, there are GP After Hours clinical dotted around: http://www.health.wa.gov.au/services...fm?Topic_ID=20.
More info: http://www.health.wa.gov.au/services...cfm?Topic_ID=1, including contact numbers for support.
There will always be someone at the hospital to help look after your child, if you do not have someone in the community. As your child is only a toddler, look for a playgroup near you, so you and your child can meet others. As a parent, it's always useful to have back-up, there are an awful lot of people here without family, so people are very understanding.
Did I read in another thread that you are Russian? There are other Russians in Perth that you could contact, eg:
The Russian Social Club Of WA
Russian Community in WA http://www.russianz.net/resources/li...tralia/wa.html
Russian Ethnic Community and Youth Development Association Rusichi
Orthodox Church http://www.rocor.org.au/
Sometimes there are Russian academics working in universities or CSIRO, or oil & gas or mining companies.

Thanks. even Russian social club haha:-) My health is ok, just worried I get in a car accident or break my leg in a bathroom, stuff like that:-)
I will talk to GP in my area about emergency depts in the area, I ws reading about 8 hour waitings in Sydney hospitals last night and thought hey, I would just die in 8 hours!
I think I ll get private insurance for ambulance, cannot believe how expensive ambulance here is!

Re: Question on Medical Emergency in Perth
There are only delays if you are not in a serious condition! When you arrive you go through 'Triage' where a nurse determines and grades your condition. If you are serious (i.e. dying) then they will deal with you immediately. If you have a suspected fractured wrist (for example) they will grade you as less serious but more immediate then if you have flu for example!
You would be very very unlikely to wait 8 hours if there is anything seriously wrong.

Re: Question on Medical Emergency in Perth
Ive been to A&E with the kids, and to Perth kids hospital.
I have always been super impressed with the service.
You certainly shouldnt be worrying about treatment.
We have never waited 8 hours, think max was 2.
Last visit was two days before Christmas and we arrived by ambulance to A&E kids hospital late at night. The department was full of staff and running very efficiently.
*The hospitals here have a social worker department. They can sort out any issues with care, accomodation and claiming travel accom expenses.
I was quite shocked when it was suggested a social worker came to the ward to see us, but they gave us a mass of information and organised for hotel for my hubby and kids over Christmas and we only paid $100 refundable deposit.

There's a massive new hospital called Fiona Stanley that is being built SOR - it certainly looks impressive from the highway. A smaller hospital is due to start construction in Midland soon.
