Question about son getting work in Brisbane
 

Hi anyone. got to be out there by end Aug, got a lad who's nearly 16 . other lad 26 who is doing dentistry, 2 years in but not on our visa, hubby is engineer, thaTS HOW WE GOT VISA!!! but he here is production engineer, but got visa as a shop floor machinist but I have looked online and don/t think we could live on those wages .!! What are the chances of him getting a production engineering job in Brisbane!! ?

Maybe it's me but your post does not make much sense.

Are you asking about your 16 year old son finding work in Brisbane?

You say your husband is a 'production engineer' but his trade that got him a visa is a 'shop floor machinist' but now you are inquiring about engineering opportunities? There is a huge difference between a production engineer and a machinist, my first step would be to clarify the requirements of both and start your job search accordingly.

Your 16 year old is going to have to go back to school but his education will likely be screwed up a bit - can he stay in UK and finish A levels otherwise he will have to complete yrs 11&12 to finish school in Aus with kids much younger than himself if he, too, has aspirations of going to university. As for jobs for your husband - who knows! Queensland isn't exactly booming at the moment and his skills may not be needed in Brisbane.

Your post is very hard to understand. Is there any relevance to the statements about the 16 year old and 26 year old? To the question about your husband, I don't think any if us could really comment on his job finding abilities, if you have managed to look online for one type of job, then look online for this one too.

Largely depends on what official qualifications your husband has an 'Engineer'
If he is essentially a trade qualified machinist that has gravitated into an engineering position through experience, he will find it difficult to convince an employer over here without ever having worked over here.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster, emigrating when you know you will have difficulty living on the wages, your 15 yr old will not be able to work as he is still of school age. I suspect that the thrill of moving to Oz has clouded your mind to the realities, Better to wait till your hubby can get a job which will give you enough money to live on.

Hi Jin. I think you meant your subject title to read 'question about husband getting work in Brisbane', but in case it is your son that you're enquiring about, kids in Oz have to stay at school until they're 17. There are some exceptions, they can leave at 15 or 16 (after they've completed Year 10) only if they are going to TAFE, have an apprenticeship or have other work of more than 25 hours a week.

Just a hint, I think you'll get better and friendlier ;) info if you reword your original post, I found it a bit confusing too. Good luck with your plans, it's an exciting time!

Oh well for me the confusion was about a thread title asking about son getting work. But then one son is 15 and the other not on the visa, he is studying apparently, don't know where he is studying, is he planning to pack it in or what?

Then it says they got a visa as hubby is engineer and then it said they got visa as he is a machinist. Then it says he is a production engineer "here" and can he get work? So I was confused especially about all the son stuff.

To get good answers it really is worth reading back one's post to see if it is going to make sense to others. It would only take an extra few seconds.

Hi All sorry for the confusion!!! I was in a bit of a rush at time. What I meant to say was we got our visa cause OH was on job shortage list, cnc engineering but he is actually what is known over here as a production engineer ( qualified) basically he writes all the programmes for cnc machines and problem solves, also goes abroad to look at new machines for company but during his apprenticeship he obviously run cnc machines hence why we got the visa!! My eldest son is at the Peninsular school of Dentistry and intends to go to Oz once he has qualified. My youngest son is nearly 16 and will be doing his gcse's in a few months. My question is, the wages for a cnc machinist do not look very good and is a production engineer over here classed under a different name over in Oz? Is there much work in this area at the mo cause our PR visa runs out in Aug so its now or never and I am feeling a bit nervous about everything at mo.!! Thanks

It seems to me that you are leaving your run a little to late, as this should have at least been looked at when you got the visa in the first place. Only way to find out is look on seek.com.au or careersone.com.au, apply like everyone else, and hope you get something in time.

Not sure if this is what you are asking:

If your visa is granted on the basis that you are a nurse, and it is a permanent residency visa, as soon as you land you can work as anything. That nurse could get a job in a shop and it is fine. Nothing illegal.
So your husband can apply to work in any field.

I am guessing you are from Malaysia? There are lots of Malaysian people in Melbourne- I work with about 7! (one was brought over as a pilot but he does something completely different now)
