question about residency

hello everyone,i have a question that is probably easier to answer than i'm making it.
so, i've been reading up about australia,as i wish to move there with someone i know in Perth.i've been reading about citizenship and the such, however anytime something mentions having to be a permenant resident for so long,it goes over my head.what is technically considered a Permenant resident? or better yet how can i achieve this status?

Re: question about residency

Apply for residency first, if and when you get it the visa will be valid for 5 years this is your permanent residency, if you spend 4 years of the 5 in Oz you can then apply to become a citizen.

I suggest you follow and thoroughly read the links the previous posters gave you as it appears you have a lot to learn about emigrating. Its not easy so good luck.

It's not that difficult to understand. Read the DIAC site to see if you even qualify to move to Australia. Not everyone does. If you qualify you will need to jump through the same hoops as everyone else who qualifies.

If you truly cannot get your head around what you need to do then I would suggest you make an appointment with a registered migration agent.
