Default Question about Brit tv programmes in Oz...

Hi guys

Can any of my fellow posters living in Oz tell me if the tv channels there show the popular Brit programmes eg Coronation Street? If yes, then how far behind are they with the episodes?

Also, son wants to know if he can see The Bill and/or NYPD Blue (which I believe is actually a US imported programme shown here.)

I have a notion that the heading_downunder household will be a much more harmonious place if these little familiar comforts are available.

No Coro on the normal 5 channels in Aus, might be on Pay for TV, I believe Eastenders is on that too about 3-4 yrs behind.

The Bill is on here, only six months behind at the moment, normally twice a week, but only once a week while we have the happy chappy viewing over the holidays. As for NYPD Blue.....thought that had finished in USA?

For the UK soaps...all of them are available in read only version on the web, if you like corrie try now on www.corrie.net exceelleeent

Cheers Sandra

The ABC , our poor cousin of the BBC is the best channel (if you can get good reception) for UK TV programs. Some of the commercial channels are catching up ie recently we had Doc Martin , Murder squad and we have had so much of the CSI type progs that we've seen em all and seen the repeats as well.
Overall Oz TV is full of American rubbish , I still can't believe they are showing Seinfeld repeats still .
SBS TV shows premier league highlights ,usually on a Sunday .They usually replay a full game each week .
I'm sure we live such an outdoors lifestyle because of the state of TV programs.
Budget for satellite !

I believe Coronation Street (shown on Foxtel/Austar) is a little behind the UK: Ena Sharples has just had a row with Minnie Caldwell...

In general, Oz TV is about as interesting as being stuck in a lift with Nigel Mansell..

ABC is a bit of a diamond in the rough though. Some very good programmes, but mostly imported fron the BBC. (no soaps).

Talking about soaps.... I've had a lot of, "You're joking", retorts from people, when I tell them that I lived in the UK up until a year and a half ago, and have never seen a single episode of Coronation Street!

"What!!!...... You don't know what you've been missing", you may say.
Or, "Good man,.... it's crap!", you may also say.....

I obviously can't have an opinion, cos I've never seen it!!

Do I win a prize????
