Queensland Schools on a temp 457 visa?
Hi, Just got back from Expo 08 today a little confused:curse:Spoke with Dept of Immigration to be told that If I went to Oz on a 457 visa then I would have to pay 'International Student Fees ' for my 3 little people to attend school but this was contradicted by a very helpful lady from a migration agency who told us that they could attend school with no fees incurred
Who is right ??? Does anybody know please?

I got the email below, last year from the Queensland Education Folk when I asked them this question....I am sure it still applies!
" As you are the holder of a 457 subclass (Business – long stay) your children can enrol directly at any Queensland government school and international fees will not be payable. Your children can be enrolled as any other domestic student would be. When you have chosen a school, make an appointment to enrol the children and make sure you take a copy of passports and your visa showing your subclass number (an email print out will suffice if you have an evisa). If the school has any queries about the subclass number, they can call me directly (number below) or my colleague, Kristy Pudlyk on (07) 3224 6952."
Hope this helps!

School fees on the temp 457 only apply in NSW and ACT, and these can be very expensive.
All other States are treated the same as residents.

QUEENSLAND The school-aged dependants of permanent resident, business skills, provisional and temporary resident visa holders are generally able to access mainstream schooling without the need to pay tuition fees.
Persons who are intending to travel to Queensland with school-aged dependants are advised to contact Education Queensland International to check whether tuition fees will be required.
