Its not good, we've been working full tilt on the situation all day, assisting Dept of Transport who are in charge of the resolution of the incident.
Lots of beaches affected - Moreton and Bribie Island, plus other parts of the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast - and I strongly suspect it will get worsen before it gets better. The poor wildlife get the worst of it though, as ever.

Shit that dont look good

How are they getting on with the clear up ?

Do they think that they will ever get rid of it all??

Of course they will. I don't get the aggro the government are getting for not starting the clear up immediately. The way I see it, the worse has now come ashore and there's one major clearup without having to go over it again - am I being stupid?

It is bad but everytime there's a major oil spillage, the media etc bang on about how it will many many years before things are back to normal and then you find that very quickly the area and the wildlife comes back and nature does the clearup automatically.

The wildlife is obviously the worse part at the moment, and there are major losses but the environmental damage will soon recover. This is spoken by a true non expert ;)

Another reason to move away from using fossil fuels. Or are we just going to kill the entire planet before we decide to make the change?

The economic situation is being used as a reason to do nothing about the environment. Strange how history has a habit of repeating itself.

Had the wife's 40th Birthday planned for next weekend on Moreton, were told by organisers it could take up to a month to clear up.

Devastating.:(:(:(

What a bummer :( We are going on our validation trip in 3 weeks to Queensland. Looks like we won't be doing much swimming in the sea:(:(

Why? Where are you headed? It's only a very small area (relatively) that's affected.

And if they aren't coming for three weeks things will be significantly better by then. The SES, council volunteers, and others are all doing a fantastic job on the clean-up.

For the benefit of those who have seen reports in the press of volunteers being turned away and not allowed to help with the clean-up - one of the concerns all along as been that people should not be allowed near the oil without the appropriate personal protective equipment(PPE). While all help would be useful, the government has a duty of care to ensure that the only people working on this do have proper PPE.

I was up at Bribie yesterday and it is fine there.....must be further north.

A lot of weed in the water though.....must have been stirred up by the storm

Bits of Bribie are fine now :) - there are still some restricted areas, but a huge effort went into Bribie over the weekend. Moreton Island is still an issue, also bits of the Sunshine Coast.

The waters along the southern end of the Sunny Coast have had a lot of weed and coral swept in from Hamish and the Tasman Sea storms - I saw some pics the other day and it didn't look as pristine as usual. It'll soon be gone though. Bribie escaped relatively unscathed from the tanker and everything south of Brissie is much the same as it was before ;)
