We have been in sunny Queensland for six years now and are visiting the UK in January.

Does anyone know if a Queensland driving licence is OK to hire a car with in the UK. I no longer have my UK licence.

One reason for asking is that the licence is simply a piece of laminated card and know for a fact that people have shown them for ID in places other than QLD and had the reaction what the hell is that!

Get yourself an international driving permit from an RACQ outlet if you want to be absolutely sure. We got one because we were hiring a car in France. Not an issue really for the hire company, they didnt look at it, more for the police if stopped.

Get it changed for a new one which is like a credit card with a smart chip in it. Having said that I used my old one in England and Italy this year (until it was stolen in Paris!) without a problem: after it was stolen I used the International one and either was accepted by the hire companies.

Well I had no problem four years ago. Mine hasn't got a chip in it. A driving licence is a driving licence. Vast majority of the world don't have International Driving Licences and shed loads of tourists visit the UK and hire cars.

It is.....and what's more they will give you a rental agreement with extra big writing on it and speak very slowly when they realise where you are from:sunglasses:

...and if you're not fluent in Polish and some other EU languages then you won't survive in the UK these days, but your driving license will be valid.
