Default Quality of life an average wage for a thirty something

What sort of life would a 30 something have in Australia taking home $700 bucks aweek after tax.No kids, no wife, no smoke, no gamble, drink say go out three nights, maybe a bottle of wine the other nights. Living in a shared house or flat with another housemate. Maybe need a car to get to and from work, living in CBD Brisbane. Affordable or not, need more or not. Thats about £400 aweek in Blighty, you have a good life here, same in Australia.

Its a tough one. Start off on domain with your rental. I'm not from Brisbane. Say thats $300. Then you should be okay. Bear in mind though that 400 a week in Uk is more than 700 a week in OZ by a fair bit. Oz is expensive. Have a look at some other threads. people are saying about 2.5 is the right way to split it so imagine being in UK on 275 a week. Thats about how well off you will be

700 in Australia is close to minimum wage. You wouldn't be beale to go out 3 times a week I reckon.

$700 per week take home is not minimum wage. It works out to be about $22/hr.

However, I will agree it's not a great wage.

If you're flatsharing then you'll get by and be able to go out for a few beers but you'll struggle to save much or go on any nice holidays.

Money ain't everything though, so go for it.

I think i will give Australia a miss then until things get cheaper? Why is it so expensive? I mean all the jobs i look at pay between $20 & $24 bucks an hour. How do you survive on that, surely you would be better off in England. I will be sticking with Thailand alot cheaper me money will go further. Thanks.

It's not going to get cheaper. Most people do okay here and have a good standard of living - few are just 'surviving'.

Only you know if you would be better of in England or Thailand.

I think you should cut down on your drinking - that'll save you a bob or two. You'll also feel healthier (because you will be) and so you can get a push bike instead of a car, taking up more of your free time which will also save you money not to mention reducing your carbon footprint.........and anyway, you cant put a price on happiness.

Let's step back a bit - would you get a visa? You're hoping not to work, aren't you?

Think you'd be better off sticking with your Thailand plan.
