Is there anyone out there currently doing the builders course in order to obtain a builders licence, or has anyone already completed the course.

We are based in Caloundra and would like to speak to or meet up with people in a similar postion.

Bit hard to say without mentionng what course you intend taking, not many courses are going to lead you straight to a builders licence, although I believe there is a university one, bachelor of construction management degree that may. A few years Aussie experience is going to be very important anyway, for the licence and obvious self protection a builder here is liable for his work and to prove your experience when tendering for jobs.

Contact them with exact details of the course in mind, there are hundreds of courses related to building even when qualified on going study is part and parcel.

The builders licence application form is also on this site, it gives you some idea of the qualifications, experience, and financial requirements. As you will see the experience side is major.

Husband is currently working through his course work in order to get his builders licence, it is quite extensive to say the least, and was hoping to get in touch with someone who is at the same stage as us, or someone who has completed the course.

Hi, My husband is hoping to go to uni starting in Jan to get his construction management degree which includes the builders licence, its a 2 year course. He is currently a carpenter, I think the course is longer if you have no trade background. You can get the builders licence on its own, but you have to have experience of the building trade and have references and loads of details and cash, its not easy to get, but once you get it, the jobs are thrown at you, as so many builders want to employ people who have the builders licence so they can build under your licence, saves them getting it.

Jobs would be thrown at you if you'd be prepared to let someone else build on your licence any work builders perform is their FINANCIAL and LEGAL responsibility for about as long as the owner is prepared to take you to the BSA or court, although officialy only several years it only takes a good lawyer to drag you back in 30 years later, even if you return overseas. Your licence your responsibility even if you never stepped foot on the site!

You are legally responsible for anywork you carry out, what happens, is a builder with QBSA subs work out, to builder without QBSA and said subby does defective work, it all comes back on the original builder
