Qantas Club - Worth it?
#1

Assuming the house sale goes through in the next couple of weeks
, we're looking to book flights out of the Uk for 31st December with Qantas.
I'll be signing up for the FF scheme prior to leaving the UK, and I'm considering joining the Qantas Club for the extra baggage allowance.
Is the club membership a worthwhile investment?
I'm guessing it's straightforward to manage FF & Club Memberships online to update my country of residence when we arrive?
Cheers,

For me, I fly home with Qantas twice a year at present, so I get extra baggage each time, plus priority check-in, and use of the QF Lounges in Brisbane, Singapore and Heathrow - all of which are worth it for better toilets, free wine and food, and free internet in Singapore. I get enough points for either an upgrade or free domestic flights at some point during the year.

I'm not sure it's worth paying for Qantas Club membership. I travel enough to get the status credits to be a Qantas FF Gold member which means I can use the lounges and I get the priority stuff. It's a nice perk, but I wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars per year to be a member.

Personally, I'd do anything to avoid flying Qantas long haul (indifferent staff, never seems to come out any cheaper etc)..

Do you see yourself travelling regularly once you are here? I would not join just for that flight and that baggage allowance, but if you think you will be travelling a fair bit, even domestic flights, it might be nice to have. We toyed with idea but not done it.

I think it is a good idea on the assumption that you will fly whilst in Australia. It is also better to take it out before you become resident in Australia as there is a discount for purchasing with an overseas address.

If you are planning on flying with Qantas while you're here, then definitely go for it.
The extra luggage allowance is handy sometimes. Priority check-in lines for domestic flights are pretty pointless now as the self check-in is fast and efficient.
When I had Qantas club membership I found it handy for getting me somewhere quietish (with free booze and food) while travelling, but also for when things go wrong - you get to line up with 10-15 other people to get your problem sorted out as opposed to 100-odd people lining up at a customer service desk.

When I turned 60 I purchased Q Club Life Membership because it was half price - obviously something to do with my life expectancy! Nice to have but I wouldn't have bothered at full price. As Lonndongeek said, the best part is being able to avoid the crowds - the free booze and internet access is a nice bonus.

For those following this thread, don't bother looking for a price for life Qantas Pub membership - they stopped it a while ago.

You've managed to get Internet access in a Qantas pub? Where??? I've been unable to connect in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne or Brisbane for most of this year - the 'service' is massively under-resourced. Funnily enough, the Qantas paid service ($5 a go) worked perfectly in Sydney the other week...
