Default Q aout tax maybe daft!!

i have more Q's lol. Sorry. If we sell our house in uk and move into rented before moving to Oz are we liable for capital gains tax?? Does anyone know what perccentage it is if we are?? Many thank, you lot are fab by the way i have so many Q's rolling around in my brain!!

This is the immigration forum so you won't get many responses. If you are still living in the UK, you need to think about UK capital gains tax and the private residence exemption.

Use the HMRC website.

No, you are only liable for Australian taxes from the time you become an Australian resident for tax purposes. Check the ATO website for more information.

At the risk of being pedantic, this isn't technically correct. Non-Aussie tax residents are subject to Aussie tax on their Aussie source income and capital gains ... and at a higher rate of tax than Aussie residents.

Yes, you are being pedantic as the poster has stated that the income was to be generated offshore not in Australia.

Non Australian citizen, resident or tax resident
Income generated outside Australia
No Australian tax liability
