Ahh, cute.

Do you think he looks OK for a 12 month old dane? he's not as solid as your one was.

Do you think it's cause we had him castrated?

My first dane (blue) struggled to put weight on. It took till he was about 18months for him to look like he wasn't starving. I think some danes are just very lean. As long as he eats, it'll be okay. Do you exercise him alot? Do you just give him dry food?

About half an hour walk a day and dry food with some brown rice. I just think he's lanky.

Hi
Just remember all dried food is processed and it is like you and me living on a diet of macs or hungry jacks. We have a choc labrador and try and stay away from to much dry food.Pasta/rice/veggies/ssardines once a week and fresh meat for the dog is faily cheap here the dog will be a lot better for it also chicken mince is a good chaep alternative for them to.
This also helps to keep there coats in top condition.

I totally agree with neiluk. If you have a local butcher/slaughterhouse try him on some raw chicken mince mixed with dry food - nothing fancy just whatever is cheap (cause this will have more fat). And raw chicken wings are great, my 2 love them. Once a week I also feed them a cooked chicken each (no cooked bones though) with alot of pasta as a treat. I get large turkey drumsticks (2 for a pound in asda) and boil them and give them to have in their kennels just to knaw on during the day sometimes aswell. Half hour exercise is okay, just don't let him run too much. Troy goes out twice a week for a slow 3 mile walk. Harry is 9 so he doesn't even get out of bed some days (bless him he's like an old man).

Like I said before my 2 have raw tripe every day, its very cheap, very smelly, but they love it, but not everyone thinks raw is best (especially some vets- usually cause they are affliated to some expensive brand of dry food). They had raw minced chicken from 5 weeks to about 10 months. Both have never been ill and thankfully have never suffered bloat (touch wood).
