The only decent pub with atmosphere and good food is the irish one in the city centre, called dirty nelleys

There are a few in the CBD stay open late until midnight / 2am on a Friday / Saturday night, although not all are the best venues. Carnegie's... Tiger Lil's... Amplifier... Venture into Northbridge and there's a lot more open until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. Not sure what time they're open until, but CBD bars that are busy on a Friday night and I've visited on a late night out after work are like Bar One, The George, Wolfe Lane, Cheeky Sparrow, Generous Squire... can't think of any more off the top of my head at the moment.

Also, areas like Leederville and Subiaco have places that stay open late, especially at the weekends. And if you like even more soul-less places there's always Burswood. The Irish bar there does live bands on Friday and Saturday nights.

Rings a bell..

PB anyone?

I disagree that there are no 'British' pubs in Australia. There are some which are older than British ones, and some which might give some a run for their money and be not so disimilar - do people want to go around with an exact checklist?

A pub doesn't have to have beams that are 150 years old...etc..

No, but if it wants to count as a real British pub then it has to satisfy two main criteria:
  1. It has to have at least one or two beers available via a hand pump, and
  2. It has to sell Fosters

Most pubs in Australia don't even sell Fosters (Australians don't drink that muck), let alone sell real beer from a pump.

I agree. I was in Melbourne 3 years ago and found loads of old bars. It felt a lot like London.

But in Perth we have non of that,

Aye but if you stagger out late at night and turn left instead of right you'll be swimming with the dolphins.
