Cool Public transport - Sassafras to CBD Melbourne

Should we get our visa, we are thinking about settleing down in Sassafras, Dandenongs, and were wondering what the public transport is like with the buses/trains into CBD Melbourne. We have done extensive research on the internet, but cannot come up with anything that gives us buses or train times/frequencies etc. Can anyone lead us to any websites or offer any help?

Many thanks : )

Deer Hunter from here actually has a website about lift sharing in the Melbourne area - not sure if it has any other info on but it might help.

That's a beautiful place! We are moving to The Basin - so not far away - 1 September. I'm sure there will be buses that will connect you with the train stations - I guess either Belgrave or Boronia. I'll do a search this evening and see if I can find anything.

You are very close to Olinda and Emerald where I have family. They travel into the CBD each day by train (about 1 hour 20 mins). They also sometimes drive and its about the same time.
Very nice but a little dangerous during the summer remember "Ash Wednesday".

Hi

Have found the link. The best route from Sassafras to the CBD would be to catch the bus to Upper Ferntree Gully train station (20 mins and starts early presuming it's for communting to work? - there is also a bus to Belgrave station but that starts later). Then train from UFG to CBD - I guess the train would take near on an hour..

Hope that helps.

Sassafras is in the Dandenongs, its very pretty bushland, but the roads are windey and Public transport is pretty bad. Most people drive to the CBD or drive to one of the local rail stations and commute.
Have a look at http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au
and also www.whereis.com.au.
That will give you the geography
Cheers

We are also going to arrive in Australia in August and hope to settle in Sassafras or nearby and I will be trying to get a job in the CDB. I don't wish to drive if possible but might have to drive to the station. Can anyone tell me how much it costs to park at, say, Belgrave station, and how much a month the commute would cost?

Cheers

Dave
