Default Public Transport in Perth

Does anyone know what public transport is like in Perth and whether there are train connections from Rockingham to Perth CBD?

Thanks in advance

We used the free CAT service in the CBD (which is excellent) but hired a car for anything outwith the City. Sorry I can't be much help

Unsure about Rockingham to perth, think they are extending the train line in the south? sure someone from perth will know.
On our recent visit we used the CAT around the city (free)
and trains to the northern subs, very clean, quiet, quick and regular service unlike the cr*p service we have here in Adelaide

There is no train yet from Rocki to Perth, hopefully the line will be completed by mid next year provided the workers on the train line are not going on strike again and again.

So far, public transport consists of poorly maintained buses (private company), but the service will get you from A to B.

There was an article in our Sunday Times today about over-crowding on Perth trains. It specifically referred to the Northern (Clarkson) line I use which has got worse even since we got here a few months ago. Populations are booming and they are still pushing for more people to use public transport. Getting on in the first few stops you can get a seat, but by the time we get to Warwick it is definitely standing room only. Even though there are trains every 4 mins at peak times there still isn't capacity. The worst time for me is the early rush hour (6.30-7.00ish) while they are still every 10-15 mins. That sounds early but with the heat of the summer (finally!) there are lots of people up and about.

There is a bus service between Rockingham and the Perth busport (river end of William st in the city). Alternatively you can get a train between Perth and Fremantle and a bus to Rockingham from Fremantle (as far as I know).

Generally buses are ok during weekdays up till around 7pm then slacken off.
Saturdays they are less frequent and Sundays they are bloody hopeless.
Train service remains good in the evenings and weekends, but not much cop if your bus connection is along time coming or has stopped altogether

A car is a great thing to have
