Public and private schools - Victoria

Here's an Age article on the trend in numbers, public vs private schools in Victoria. Of course, in Australia, a public school is not an Eton or Harrow but one funded entirely from the public purse and a private school is one which is funded from the purse of the private individuals who chose to send their children there (but they also get some public money as well). (State = government = public; non-government = private).

It is probably also worth adding that a higher proportion go to private school in Melbourne than would be the case in the UK and as you'll see from the article the numbers at private schools are booming comparing to those at public schools.

Thank you for posting this article. I suppose those of us that are going to look at the government schools for our children can take some comfort that there is going to be huge investment in the government schools over the next 10 years!. You can only look at the school and see if if fits your child!
