Default Public Practice as Bookkeepers

It depicts from NIA website that ANIA(Associate Member) could get Bookkeepers Certificate for Public Practice subject to the following conditions:-

-Holds Current ANIA status.
-Holds professinal Idemnity Insurance.
-Completed NIA Bookkeepers Orientation program.

Could any one tell me, after getting the practice certificate of Bookkeepers, is it possible to just start the business? how much funds are required to set up the business of small size. Won't it difficult for overseas accountants, having Bookkeepers Certificate, to provide services without having any local accounting/bookkeeping experience. Is one day Orientation program of NIA Bookkeepers suffice to get introduction of local bookkeeping requirements. Should some one first get some experience and then go for providing services.

I am mixed up with too many things. Your inputs are required guys for the knowledgement of potential accountants who thinking to start their business as bookkeepers.

From personal experience of building a client base in the UK I would never go and establish a business doing the same in a country where I have no local knowledge and no established business network.

My personal preference would be to build the client base while working in-country to a point where you are able to go full time.

Just my two pence

Bookkeeping is Bookkeeping the whole world over.

The only real difference is getting to grips with the GST.

Other than that, a debit is a debit, a credit is a credit, and we mostly use the same software packages.

I speak from my experience of starting my own bookkeeping business in Sydney, after moving here the first time. But we didn't have GST then, so it was easy.

My point was not that he would not have the technical knowledge but that he would not have the contacts to develop a client base from and previous experience within the local industry should the prospective client ask for references from existing clients.

Nor did I. I began with one, then worked up. My own UK references were sufficient.

I am just saying it is do-able from my own experiences.
