so i have medicare and i am looking at hospital cover, i am looking through the leaflets and keep seeing public hospital cover. whats the point in this? is it for people who dont have medicare?

Some doctors can have private patients in public hospitals (depends on the arrangement they have with the hospital). If that's the case then they can treat you in the public hospital but you still have to pay for it - hence this insurance. It's probably a bit cheaper than being treated in a full private hospital with all their associated costs.

And people who will pay the extra tax if they dont have private insurance.
