Re: Pro's/Con's
pros ... useable outdoor space... chance of a life time to declutter... new culture ... distance from family
Cons ... distance from family, MIL coming for months rather than a few hours, stress of whole process... No £1 saturday morning cinema for the kids...

Con - Missing everything that you've grown accustomed to, things that won't miss until I've left! Probable lower salary. Have to start again from scratch. No job lined up. Will upset a lot of people when we finally go. Will be damn hard work. No football

Re: Pro's/Con's
Just a few things that come to mind.
Pros:
1.No Tesco's nearby
2.Better lifestyle for kids: more outdoors oriented, allowed to be kids for longer than in UK, no hanging around the streets till all hours culture.
3.Better weather. No more days of drizzle...
4.No rellies nearby
Cons:
1. Expensive to travel overseas (especially when there are six of you).
2. Books are bloody expensive.
3. Television is not good (even if you have Foxtel). Although this isn't really a problem for me as I don't watch it much. You'll like it if you're into US cop shows though.

Re: Pro's/Con's
Pros - kids can be kids, more scuba diving, far far away from family and even more scuba diving, exploring
Cons - actually doing exactly the same job on an oil rig for the same company and same manager, best friends are still 1500 miles away..

Re: Pro's/Con's
Pros
Better weather.
Some really nice, friendly people.
The beaches are gorgeous as is the natural wildlife.
24 hour culture in the cities.
The roads are less crowded.
**Probably less chance of being robbed.
Cons
Lower wages.
Absurd, really absurd driving standards.
Some blatantly rude & arrogant people.
English sport is on at daft times in the mornings.
Much smaller visible police presence**.
I can't see why people see emphasize Australia as an 'outdoorsy' kinda place for kids, especially if you're moving to the city. For a child/teen, It's exactly the same as the UK, bar the weather. The same thing happens here. I've seen many groups of teens wandering around the streets at past midnight getting ratted off goon. There's the same youth boredom drinking culture.

Interesting point regarding the teens wandering around drunk. We also live in Syndey (well North Shore) and I've not noticed this whereas at home (Portsmouth) the gangs of youngsters were quite noticable in the evenings.

Re: Pro's/Con's
It's a shame really. The problem (if you call it one) wouldn't exist if the UK government provided facilities such as free leisure centers, pool halls and arcades. Imagine how many budding Steve Hendry's the UK would churn out!
I remember being a teen and being very, very bitter against any sort of authority, because living in a town, the only option was to get drunk at a park. I enjoyed it though! But yeah, when the police inevitably arrived to move on, our arguement would be 'Well what are we going to do then?'. They'd agree.
